Mamelodi Sundowns FC stars dominate PSL awards nominations
Mamelodi Sundowns FC have landed four nominations for the PSL awards, with midfield general Teboho Mokoena and striker Khuliso Mudau leading the charge. The ceremony takes place this Monday, where the league’s standout performers will be crowned.
Who’s in the running for Sundowns?
Sundowns’ Mokoena is up for the midfielder of the season award, while Mudau is nominated for both top goalscorer and player of the season. Their nominations follow strong campaigns from both players, with Mokoena pulling the strings in midfield and Mudau firing 12 goals in the league last term.
Orlando Pirates also feature heavily, with Relebhohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis among the nominees. The two Soweto giants are expected to share the spotlight when the winners are announced on Monday evening.
What the nominations mean for Sundowns
For Sundowns, the nominations are a sign of their consistency at the top of South African football. The club finished second last season, just three points behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns, and their players’ individual recognition reflects that.
Mokoena’s inclusion is no surprise after another season of dictating play, while Mudau’s goals kept Sundowns in contention until the final weeks. Their form has already drawn interest from abroad, though the club has yet to comment on any potential moves.
When and where to watch the PSL awards
The PSL awards ceremony kicks off at 7pm on Monday at the Sandton Convention Centre. The event will be broadcast live on SuperSport, with fans able to vote for the People’s Player of the Season award.
Sundowns will be hoping to add to their trophy haul, which already includes six straight league titles. A strong showing on Monday would cap a season that saw them push for another championship before falling short in the final stretch.
