Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Tiyani Mabunda continues to balance his corporate duties at the club with a public spiritual ministry. The 33-year-old retired from playing in August 2021 and now works as executive assistant to chairman Tlhopie Motsepe while also serving as a club ambassador.

Mabunda had a decorated playing career at Chloorkop, winning multiple domestic titles and the 2016 CAF Champions League. His transition into the boardroom has been seamless, and he is a regular analyst on the club's official Pitchside Podcast. The team's current form provides a vibrant backdrop for his work, with Sundowns sitting top of the Premier Soccer League with 20 points from eight games. Their recent run reads four wins and a draw from the last five matches. The team has scored an average of 2.5 goals per game while conceding only 0.5 goals per game on average this season.

Tiyani Mabunda has publicly credited controversial preacher Shepherd Bushiri as his spiritual mentor. "I have come to understand God under his leadership," Mabunda said. He added, "It was through his teachings, preaching, and well wishes that I was able to reach this level in life."

Bushiri and his wife Mary departed South Africa for Malawi in late 2020 amid ongoing legal proceedings. Following that departure, Mabunda's public focus appeared to shift more towards his corporate responsibilities at Sundowns. However, recent video footage shows him delivering sermons at ECG Pretoria TJNC, an offshoot ministry associated with Bushiri's network. This indicates he continues to combine his club duties with his spiritual calling.

Beyond his executive assistant position, Mabunda remains a visible face of the club as an ambassador. His presence aligns with a period of sustained success for the side, who are one point clear at the summit.

Looking ahead, Mamelodi Sundowns prepare for an away fixture against Richards Bay on October 17. Richards Bay currently occupy 14th place in the table. The club will aim to maintain their unbeaten league start and extend their lead. Sundowns' next match is against Richards Bay on October 17.
